the kag and the anti-kag. the yen and the yang. the nut and bolt and the good and bad.
this post is half about being tight and half about suckin.
first, the tight. had to go to a black tie affair in oxford this evening. helena booked me in, thinking it was gonna be on thurs. late in the day we found out it was on friday. i needed to be in cambridge by 9am, so this presented some serious travel difficulties. she was too scared to “unbook”, so we worked it out where i’d get this bus down to london at 10pm, then hopefully catch the 12:30 train back up to cambridge where i could get a few hours of kip before getting back up to be where i gotta be before 9. problem one solved.
this morning we found problem two, which is were the tightness comes in. it was black tie. i gotta tux, but in cammytown. what to do? we turned to primark. it’s not quite like the wal-mart of blighty, but maybe the target or something. i got black trousers, a black jacket, a white shirt and a silk black tie for 38 squids and 16 pence. huge bam. but it’s even tighter. i’d always meant to buy the cheapest tux possible for these oxbridge dues, sorta like a statement but british style where you gotta think about it for far too long: ”so it’s a horribly cheap suit, at a swanky dinner; but he’s from oklahoma and prolly doesn’t know suits anyway; but he’s been in cambridge for almost 4 years now, surely he’d learn; but maybe he doesn’t want to…” i think this is what they call “wit”, but prolly not. only the brits, apparently, can do wit. well, within this bam i added another. my black tie was not a bow tie, but a long tie. obama style. baller, just sayin. i’m totally up on the latest styles and i bet there’s not more than 100 people in the world who’ve done the long black tie trick since obama did it a week or two ago.
now, the anti-kag. left the dinner at 9:50 so i could get the bus. skipped the cash machine thinking i got this ticket for one bus from helena. get there, bus with the ticket doesn’t leave till 10:10, other bus leaves at 10. hmm… i got no money to buy a ticket on the 10 bus so i say heck, i’ll just leave it. 10:10 bus comes after 10:30. not cool. so right now it’s 1.5 hrs till the last train leaves from london to cambridge and i’m just outside of oxford. not sure i’m gonna make it. not cool.
still dressed in my baller long black tie though.
