There’s one thing, as far as self-esteem goes, that’s more or less the equivalent of getting hit on by a hot chick even though you’re engaged to a hot chick.  And this is having a cool musician invite you to be in their band.

Tom and I (www.myspace.com/tomconwaymusic) have been going to this open mic that’s started up a couple months ago every fortnight at a local coffeeshop.  It reminds me of the open mic we used to frequent in York where everyone there is pretty good, some are really good and everyone is trying to bring in new stuff every time to entertain the other musicians.  Well, after last night’s event this guy came up to me and asked me if I would play bass in a Cambridge band he’s getting together:

You can compare and contrast for yourself between him and Tom.  Check out the “Mushroom Box, 1975” video there, it’s pretty cool.  He’s apparently very well connected in the music industry and a staple of the California psychedelic music scene, whatever that means.  It woulda been quite a musical change.  But alas I’m moving to Scotland in a month.

Nonetheless, consider this the equivalent of coming back from the bar to a table full of you guys, polishing my fingernails on my shirt while looking down my nose and saying “see that hot chick over there?  she just asked me for my number.”
